After a successful series of runs in London, Estonia, Munich, Salzburg, and New Orleans, writer-actress Sylvia Milo’s brilliant portrayal of Wolfgang Amédée Mozart’s Sister Nannerl is back in New York. If you missed in the summer of 2014, here is your chance!
My review of Ms. Milo’s 2013 performance of her remarkable work, linked below, will give you an idea of what is in store for you at The Player’s Theatre now. She has continued to revise and refine her text since then, but the core of it remains the same. She has brought in other actresses in the past to give the play more exposure and to prepare a German language version. Presently, she has engaged the German actress, Samantha Hoefer, a recent graduate of the Stella Adler School, to alternate with her as Nannerl. If you have seen Ms. Milo perform The Other Mozart in the past, it’s very much worth the return trip to see Samantha Hoefer, who brings her own sparkle and energy to the role. Hoefer’s if a more extroverted treatment, with an intense, direct expression of Nannerl’s emotions, as she fades from her earlier, public life as an admired keyboard artist, transformed, at her parents’ wishes, into the wife of a minor nobleman, isolated in his mountaintop castle. Her athletic and expressive use of movement is also impressive.
